An Analog Telephone Adapter or Analog Telephone Adapter or Analogue Telephone Adapter (ATA) is a device used to connect one or more standard analog telephones to a digital and/or non-standard telephone system such as a Voice over IP based network. An ATA usually takes the form of a small box with one Ethernet port, one or more FXS telephone ports a power adapter and might also have a FXO link. Users can plug one or more standard analog telephone devices into the ATA and the analog device(s) will operate, ofcourse transparently, on a Linqk VoIP network.
An Analog Telephone Adapter (ATA) may be connected between an IP network (such as a broadband connection) and an existing telephone jack in order to provide service nearly indistinguishable from PSTN providers on all the other telephone jacks in the residence. This type of service, which is fixed to one location, is generally referred to as Voice Over IP (VoIP) or broadband phone. Analog Telephone Adapter (ATA) are commonly provided to subscribers of Linqk VoIP / broadband phone service.
